John Robert Crichton, Jr. was born in North Carolina. He is the son of a scientist and a astronaut. Inspired to study physics by his mother he attended MIT where he achieved a doctorate in theoretical sciences. After graduation he was given the opportunity to train with IASA as an astronaut because of his fathers involvement with the organization. Because of his strengths as a scientist, he was a valued mission specialist on several shuttle missions. During his time with IASA he commanded several shuttle missions and worked side by side with his life long friend to prove a theory they had been working for many years. It was their belief that they could use a planets gravitational pull as a means of propulsion |

| which would allow humanity to
finally venture further into space than ever before. Having won the
approval of the IASA Command, John set out into to space in a shuttle of
his own design to run the finale test which would either prove or disprove
their theory. During the experiment something went wrong and a wormhole
was created which sucked him into the deepest areas of space, with no way
to get back.
Upon his arrival John was rescued by a group of escaped prisoners who he has banded with on a living ship called Moya. Crichton has managed to survive many obstacles, including lethal confrontations with carnivorous and shape shifting aliens. The difficulties he and the alien crew have undergone have forged a special bond between them all. They now travel through space trying to stay one step ahead of a military organization known as the Peacekeepers who are bent on finding Moya and re-enslaving her crew. |
